Diesel engine emissions are measured by smoke opacity. This test measures the amount of light that can pass though diesel smoke the darker the smoke the higher the smoke opacity. 40% Reduction in exhaust opacity .The main particulate diesel exhaust consists of very small particles. Because of their small size, inhaled particles may easily penetrate deep into the lungs. The rough surfaces of these particles make it easy for them to bind with other toxins in the environment, thus increasing the hazards of particle inhalation. In addition to smoke opacity diesel exhaust gas composition is important to take into account. Diesel exhaust produces not only particulate matter but also generates CO and NOx two toxic and highly polluting gases.
